This author has definitely spent a lot of time with cats, and captures their sometimes aloof but still loving personalities. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eCarl is also a very great character, who sees the injustice this corporation perpetrates not just the denizens of earth, but also of past worlds, who are trapped in the dungeons. This story is hilarious while including searing social commentary about late stage capitalism. One daughter has pretended to be Italian for years, and the father long ago took classes to remove his accent, trying to be as American as possible. \u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe reason I bought this book, however, was the description stating \"\u003cspan\u003eEach of the Milanis—even their aloof Persian cat Pari—has something to hide.\" What could a cat have to hide?! My cats aren't ever shy about their misbehavior. But Pari does have a secret, which is revealed when the Milanis hire a pet psychic. It all seems like it could be BS, until the author gives us a glimpse at Pari's thoughts. Upheaval and change can be a very good thing. There are chapters on forest management, dog breeding, and Japanese culinary enthusiasts.
