Dungeon Crawler Carl is another one for people who love cats and video games. Even though the book is not titled Dungeon Crawler Princess Donut, it should be. Aliens have destroyed the world, and those who survived are enticed underground, only to find it's a real-life version of a video game dungeon, all filmed for a reality show. Princess Donut is the award winning Persian show cat who enters the dungeon with her human friend Carl. Through a power up, she gains the ability to speak English, and then we get to hear her Highness argue with Carl as they work through the floors of the dungeon. This author has definitely spent a lot of time with cats, and captures their sometimes aloof but still loving personalities.
Carl is also a very great character, who sees the injustice this corporation perpetrates not just the denizens of earth, but also of past worlds, who are trapped in the dungeons. This story is hilarious while including searing social commentary about late stage capitalism. I devoured this book and the second in the series, and am meting the rest out slowly when I'm having some particularly bad despair about the state of the world.
