CW: drug use, mentions of homophobia and racism, conspiracy theories, COVID

Written from multiple perspectives and set during the pandemic lock down, the Milani family, an insanely rich Iranian-American family, are forced to confront their foibles. Their family is offered a reality show which could reveal their secrets. The four siblings all have very different personalities and relationships with their ethnicity, especially considering the looming war with Iran. One daughter has pretended to be Italian for years, and the father long ago took classes to remove his accent, trying to be as American as possible.

The reason I bought this book, however, was the description stating "Each of the Milanis—even their aloof Persian cat Pari—has something to hide." What could a cat have to hide?! My cats aren't ever shy about their misbehavior. But Pari does have a secret, which is revealed when the Milanis hire a pet psychic. It all seems like it could be BS, until the author gives us a glimpse at Pari's thoughts. I liked the book very well overall, but this part made me love it.

It also has some really good queer rep and reflections of the struggles of coming out to one's family.
